Aston Martin Rapide, a highly anticipated model from Aston Martin is out and the company expects to sell atleast 100 of its models in India by the end of 2012. The Rapide will become the first British luxury sportscar only four door model and though the car is set to compete against the other sports car giants from Porsche, Jaguar and Maserati, this one from Aston will be the most expensive and exclusive luxury sports sedan in the market, having standard features like the Bang & Olufsen Beosound audio system, heated memory seats and Aston Martin’s Adaptive Damping System. Just like the other Aston’s model the Rapide is built on the company’s VH (Vertical/Horizontal) architecture, the same used in the DB9.
Of all the features that determine the success of any sports car is its exterior styling and no company would like to compromise for that. The Aston Martin Rapide is a long and elongated car with the overall length of the car measuring 5019 mm, width 2140 mm, height 1360 mm and the wheelbase measuring 2989 mm. The front of the car is given a low and balanced look which gives a real aggressive look on the road and is enough to distinguish it from the other rivals in the segment. The rear of the Rapide looks very similar to the other Aston Martin cars and the tail lights contains nicely placed LED lightings.
The interior of the Aston Martin Rapide consists of power folding rear seats, and a movable rear bulkhead perhaps the highest degree of practicality ever offered in a production Aston Martin. As for the rest of the cabin, it’s basically DB9-style luxury times two. The front seat occupants will feel right at home if, as is expected of many Rapide customers, they have driven or owned a DB9 or DBS in the past. In other words, it’s 360 degrees of wood, leather, milled aluminum, and sparkling magnesium. In back, a similarly cushy experience awaits, only with the sort of space that no Aston in history has ever provided.
Built using the same VH architecture as the Aston Martin’s DB9, DBS, and Vantage, the Rapide is also powered by a 5.9-liter V-12, front mid-mounted engine producing in this case a healthy 470 bhp at 6000 rpm and a massive 443 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. The car accelerates from 0-100km/hr in 5.2 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 295 km/hr (183mph).
As far as safety is concerned, Aston Martin Rapide is provided with Front occupant side airbags, Dual stage driver and passenger front airbags which assures safe drive for the occupants. Along with these essential enhancements, the car also offers Head protection airbags for front and rear occupants.
The car is priced in between $209,995 – $228,950 and in the Indian market it will cost approximately Rs 2.15 crores. Other cars in the segment competing against the Rapide include Jaguar XFR, Maserati Quattroporte GTS and Porsche Panamera Turbo.
