The cutting edge design of Audi A8L is prominent enough to catch every one’s attention at the very first glance. The most identifying feature of A8L is in form of muscular trapezoidal radiator grille which is formed by a combination of lower and upper sections. This one accelerates from 0-100 in 7.9 seconds and delivers a top speed of 243 Km/hr. All these engines are coupled with a six speed automatic transmission.

The 4.2L (petrol) variant costs about Rs 83 lakh, the 6.0 L costs about Rs 1.26 Crore and the 3.0 TDI will cost around Rs 72 lakh. The Audi A8L comes in a lovely range of colors including Night Blue, Phantom Black, Brilliant Black, Deep Green, Oyster Grey Metallic, Cherry Black, Impala Beige, Avus Silver Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic and Ibis White. Possible competitors to this luxury sedan can be the Mercedes Benz S class, BMW 7 series and the Jaguar XJ.

The new Audi S4 gets cleaner and more distinctive lines than the original A4. The horizontal lines at the front are more pronounced and the engine hood arched further. The upper corners of the single-frame grille are tapered with the cross ribs and the Audi rings that are highlighted three-dimensionally. The re-designed front bumper gets an aggressive look thanks to the angular air ducts and the new headlamps. The new headlamp design is carried over to the LED tail-lamp at the rear. The Audi A4 has always been a very modern now it has become even sharper with this facelift in form of the S4.

The interior of the new Audi S4 is equipped with various great features. The S4 gets sports seats with integrated head restraints, which provides a lot of side support to make sure that one does not move around in the seat with the G force when driving fast round corners. The black leather sports steering with a flat bottom has brushed aluminum finish paddle shifter and the grey stitching gives a touch of class and sportiness.

With all aluminium 3.0 Liter V6 TFSI supercharged engine, the Audi S4 comes to life with a press of start/stop button.  This engine produces 329 hp between 5500 and 6500 rpm and a torque of 325 pound-feet from 2900 to 5300 rpm. 0-60 mph is achieved in 4.9 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph.

The Audi S4 will be competing against the other giants in the segment like the BMW M3, Cadillac CTS-V sedan, and Mercedes- Benz C63 AMG. The car will have two variants to choose from, namely the S tronic and the manual Audi S4, however the car will go on sale only from the month of June this year.

Audi has put great importance to the design  of 2012 Audi A7. The exterior of the car is based on the three lines- a long roof, boat tail-shaped sill and a shoulder line, these results in a sense of movement from front to back and meeting in the rear. The unique lighting with LEDs makes Audi distinctive from the front and rear ends.

Like most of the Audi models, the Audi A7 comes with a variety of powerplants having petrol or diesel depending upon the market conditions. The base model of car will have 3.0-liter TDSI V6 engine. This engine is found in Audi’s S4, A6, A8 and Q7. The engine is directly injected with a belt- driven supercharger that produces an output of upto 310 hp and 325 pounds-feet of torque.

Audi A7 can reach a speed of 60mph in just 5.4 seconds. The car’s speed is electronically limited to 130mph. The car weighs about 4210 pounds despite the fact that the hood, roof, fenders and tailgate of the car are made out of aluminum.

The inside of the car is roomier with leather seats that keep you warm. The seats and the door panels are made out of soft perforated leather and the natural hides are contrasted with real wood trim having the borders done with strips of aluminium. The Audi A7 has much longer wheelbase than expected giving it a comfort of a limo.

Price of Audi A7 starts with a base tag of $59,259. This is however a bit more than some of its competitors like the BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo which costs about $58,800. However Audi A7 costs much less than the all wheel drive Porsche Panamera 4 which costs about $78,900.

The 2011 Audi R8 will be available with the 525hp, 5.2 liter V10 engine, with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional R-tronic automated transmission. Also the weight of car has been reduced by about 100 kgs. The R8 GT accelerates from 0-100km/hr in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 320km/hr (198.84 mph).

The new R8 5.2 FSI Quattro has already been an example of Audi’s lightweight construction philosophy. R8’s aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF) body weighs only 210 kilograms (462.97 lb). The aluminum body panels are joined to the frame of extruded profiles and cast nodes by means of positive and friction connections. The engine frame is made of ultra lightweight magnesium.

Design

The design of the 2011 Audi R8 GT is the expression of concentrated power – a beautiful, technical sculpture measuring 4.43 meters (14.53 ft) long, 1.93 meters (6.33 ft) wide and only 1.23 meters (4.04 ft) high. The exterior of the car has undergone many modifications that further sharpened the appearance. Many of them also reduce the weight and enhance the aerodynamics. The R8 GT produces even more downforce when driven fast than the production model – without any increase in the Cd value (0.36) or frontal area (1.99 m²) or (21.42 sq ft).

The frame of the single-frame grille, its struts and the slats in the air intakes are finished in matt titanium gray; the grille is painted matt black. The splitter under the bumper has a double lip and is made of carbon. Slender, curved flics at the corners of the nose increase the downforce on the front axle and are also made of a carbon fiber composite.

Performance

The modified V10, whose cylinder head covers are painted red, gives the Audi R8 GT breathtaking performance. The R8 GT sprints from a standing start to highway speed in 3.6 seconds, and from zero to 200 km/h (124.27 mph) in 10.8 seconds. And the thrust does not let up until the top speed of 320 km/h (198.84 mph) is reached. The torque curve peaks at 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm, 10 Nm (7.38 lb-ft) more than in the production version. The V10 has a specific power output of 79.2 kW (107.6 hp) per liter displacement. Its power-to-weight ratio is 3.70 kilograms (8.16 lb) per kW or 2.72 kilograms (6.00 lb) per hp. The engine redlines at 8,700 rpm.

Interior

The 2011 Audi R8 GT comes with an automatic climate control system and power windows, a navigation system with MMI operating logic and a powerful sound system. A 465 watt, ten-channel Bang & Olufsen sound system, a CD changer and the Audi Music Interface are available as options. As always with Audi, the interior shows loving attention to detail. Rich materials spoil the occupants with a fine look and feel.

The ergonomic interior is adorned in sporty black and dark gray. The steering wheel, the headliner, the roof posts, the knee pad, the parking brake lever and the bucket seats are covered with Alcantara accented with contrasting stitching. A synthetic sharkskin-look material that feels slightly rough to the touch is applied to the bulkhead, the door liners, the instrument cowl and the dashboard. The “monoposto” – the arch in the cockpit – is made of matt carbon.

The instrument cluster features white dials with “R8 GT” badges. The newly designed selector lever is made of CFRP and aluminum; the center tunnel and the door liners sport decorative inlays in the body color. The door sills feature trims of matt aluminum decorated with the “R8 GT” logo.

Exterior

Exterior options include two alternative wheels, a body-color front splitter and a CFRP engine compartment lining. Carbon elements on the doors, the tunnel, in the cockpit and on the instrument panel are available as interior options. Others include a multifunction leather steering wheel, seat belts in red, orange or gray, floor mats with the “R8 GT” logo and CFRP door sill trims illuminated in red. If desired, Audi will fit seats with carbon frames, which are somewhat lighter than the CFRP shells. The Alcantara seat covers are optionally available with an embroidered “R8 GT” logo.

The car is built on a conventional steel chassis, with the use of several aluminum components in order to keep the overall weight of the car as minimum. The standard suspension is made of traditional steel coils and optional air suspension may be available.

A 2.0 L V8 engine is used for the base model. However the top version of the sports club is believed to be getting a turbocharged 4.0- liter V8 engine. The sole transmission is likely to be an 8-speed automatic. The hybrid can run on one or both of its power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. The luxury sports vehicle shall include a list of standard options such a touchpad entry navigation system, lane keeping assist, active cruise control,  and autonomous emergency braking. Notably, the active cruise control will also have follow-to-stop feature.

Among the available features in the 2012 Audi A6 are a navigation system, forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, head-up display, four-zone automatic climate control, and night-vision camera. An optional S line Package includes specific seats, interior, and exterior trim.

The Audi e-tron Spyder has low total weight of only around 1,450 kilograms (3,196.70 lb) combined with the high-torque TDI and the two electric motors results in respectable performance. The car accelerates to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 4.4 seconds, and top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

The slim dash has a curve that extends laterally into the door panels. With no need to allow for a transmission, shifter and cardan tunnel, the designers again took advantage of the opportunity to create a particularly slim and lightweight center tunnel and convex, arching center console for the e-tron Spyder with hybrid drive. The only control element other than that of the MMI is the flush-mounted selector lever for the automatic transmission, which extends upward from the tunnel when the vehicle is started.

The Audi e-tron Spyder also draws on this recipe for success – albeit in a revolutionary new combination. This marks the first use of a new generation of the six-cylinder, 3.0 TDI that breathes through two turbochargers and produces 221 kW (300 hp). That is another 50 hp more than the previous stage, which debuted a few months ago in the new Audi A8.

Peak torque of 650 Newton meters (479.42 lb-ft) is unusually high, even in the sports car segment. The mid-mounted, longitudinal 3.0 TDI engine drives the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Another innovation is the coupling of the TDI with the electric drive of the front axle. Two asynchronous electric motors with a total output of 64 kilowatt (88 hp) and peak torque of 352 Newton meters (259.62 lb-ft) combine with the 3.0 TDI to give the Audi e-tron Spyder the performance of a high-performance sports car. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

The combination of the mid-mounted TDI engine and the two electric motors at the front axle also make it possible to intelligently control the lateral dynamics of the e-tron.

The top speed of the vehicle is electronically limited to 222km/hr. Moreover, this car is capable of accelerating from 80 to 120 km/h (49.71 to 74.56 mph) in fifth gear in about 5.9 seconds. The lithium-ion battery system in the car weighs 38 kg (83.78 lb) and stores energy from the electric motor. The Audi Q5 hybrid With an output of 39 kW, the battery has 72 cells and 266 volts plus a nominal energy of 1.3 kWh.

While the Audi A7’s most powerful engine delivers a total of 296 HP, the new S7  gets  a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 engine developed in cooperation with Bentley. In fact, it is the same engine that will be used for the new Continental GT, next to the usual 6.0 liter W12 powertrain, and will develop a total of 550 HP. Also, like the Bentley model, the next S7 will be an all-wheel drive model.

Compared to a standard A7, the Audi S7 will get larger brakes, a sportier front bumper with larger air intakes and quad exhaust pipes, fog lights with chrome borders, and a set of double-spoke alloy wheels.

Technology
The  engine of  Audi A8 hybrid is the  2.0 TFSI – a high-tech powerplant. This four-cylinder unit, which has been named “Engine of the Year” five times in a row since 2005, is an example of Audi’s downsizing philosophy. It combines direct fuel injection with turbocharging and the AVS Audi valvelift system, which regulates the valve lift in two stages. In combination with the adjustable  intake camshaft, the Audi valvelift system improves cylinder charging and ensures spontaneous and powerful torque build-up. The 2.0 TFSI delivers 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft); the torque value remains constant from 1,500 to 4,200 rpm.

Electric power.
A hydraulically operated wet clutch links the 2.0 TFSI with the electric motor. Its control requires the utmost precision, and a great deal of know-how has been expended to achieve its smooth, precise and swift operation. The synchronous motor, which is continually excited, also serves as a generator that develops 33 kW (45 hp) of power and 211 Nm (155.63 lb-ft) of torque. Its full power is available practically right from standstill and contributes to a sportily powerful start-up. Since an electric motor also develops heat, its housing is furnished with cooling ducts. Interposed between the electric motor and the wheelset of the eight-speed tiptronic, which is controlled entirely by electronics, is an additional cut-out clutch. In conjunction with the electric unit, this functions as a torque converter. The propulsive power of both drive systems is applied to the road through the front wheels.

Battery with Lithium-ion technology
The energy storage system of the Audi A8 hybrid is mounted in the rear section. This state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery is more compact and weighs less than other types but is substantially more powerful. It is protected by a high-strength housing, and a ventilation module ensures that it always operated within the ideal temperature range. Yet the A8 hybrid also provides ample luggage space of 400 liters (14.13 cubic feet)

Several subsystems that operate on engine power in a conventional car have been modified right from the start for use in the Audi A8 hybrid. The compressor in the climate control system runs entirely on electric power. The steering system is electromechanical as well. The brake booster too is supplied by a demand-controlled electric vacuum pump. During electrical – i.e. recuperative – braking actions, a sophisticated control system ensures that the ABS and ESP functions operate properly.

The power electronics unit manages the interaction of the systems. Its pulse control inverter regulates the interplay of the battery and the electric motor. The DC-DC converter supplies power to users on the onboard network. The power electronics unit, which is connected to the battery and the electric motor by high-voltage cables, is located in the engine compartment.

The smooth interaction of these components and their high level of integration attest to the specialized know-how Audi has accumulated. The technology architecture already provides a glimpse of a future production model – the Audi Q5 hybrid, which will be introduced later this year.

Driving experience.
The Audi A8 hybrid, which weighs 1,885 kilograms (4,155.71 lb), drives as if it had a big six-cylinder gasoline engine or a TDI under its hood. From zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) the vehicle accelerates in 7.6 seconds, and it can continue to accelerate up to 235 km/h (146.02 mph). Yet its fuel consumption according to the EU cycle is only 6.2 liters per 100 km (37.94 mpg), corresponding to 144 grams CO2/km (231.75 g/mile). In city traffic, the hybrid drive uses about 20 percent less fuel than a conventional drive. Both the car’s performance and its fuel economy benefit substantially from a major advantage of the A8 model series – its lightweight aluminum body based on the Audi Space Frame principle (ASF).

The hybrid drive is designed for fully electric-powered driving up to 65 km/h (40.39 mph) and for a distance exceeding two kilometers – especially well-suited for driving in the city or residential suburbs. When conditions permit, the driver can also select the electric mode by actuating a separate e-key in the cockpit. Both the display screen of the instrument cluster and the large monitor of the MMI operating system on the dashboard present all momentary power flows in brilliant graphics.

When the Audi A8 hybrid starts moving, both of its engines interoperate closely to suit varying power demands. Above 65 km/h (40.39 mph) the combustion engine alone does all the propulsive work, while the electric motor supplies onboard users and recharges the battery.

When the driver lets up on the gas, the combustion engine is disconnected from the drivetrain, so the Audi A8 hybrid ”sails”. In braking and slow-down phases, the e-motor functions as a generator – recuperating energy efficiently and feeding it into the battery.

When the driver floors the pedal, the engine management temporarily controls the entire system power, and now the electric motor is boosting power. 180 kW (245 hp) and 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft) endow the big sedan with enormous thrust. The intermediate sprint from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 to 74.56 mph) in fifth gear for instance is accomplished in 7.5 seconds. The Audi A8 hybrid is an extremely dynamic car – with a fuel efficiency that is setting new standards. This is especially true in everyday user activities. Even its looks betray the power of this near-production concept car with its big 21-inch wheels and their 265/35 tires. Efficiency and sportiness are no paradox at Audi – they go hand in hand.

The design of the Audi A8 hybrid.
This near-production concept car has 21-inch, two-colour wheel rims styled with highly three-dimensional surface areas. The exterior paint job of the A8 hybrid is in “Prism Silver” with “Spectra Flair” as an accent color – a rainbow effect that’s accentuated in reflected light along creases and seams on the body. The prominently located “hybrid” lettering on both front fenders leaves no doubt about what kind of car this is. The accentuation of its width by a prominent low horizontal spoiler edge and a chrome strip conveys the vehicle’s solid stance on the road.

The engine compartment cover with its high-gloss finish and the glass cover of the battery in the trunk also provide visual links to hybrid technology. And the illuminated doorsteps bear the “hybrid” insignia as an elegant touch to underscore the electric aspect whenever the doors are opened – using LED technology to minimize energy consumption.
