If you love to keep yourself updated with new cars and that you are online most of the times, then there’s no doubt that you have come across the new hot looking Lamborghini Huracan. Officially having made its public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show held last month, this vehicle is sure to make you start droolin. Lamborghini Huracan is like a time machine, only faster. There’s nothing from the past that can beat the technology of the new Huracan, which seems to come straight out of the future. Lamborghini Huracan is the successor to the highly successful Gallardo, which was a benchmark in the segment from the Italian super sports car manufacturer. This vehicle delivers an unparalleled experience of a sports car with its pure and absolute design, breathtaking dynamics and excellent quality. President and CEO of Lamborghini Stephen Winkelmann said, “With the Huracan, Lamborghini is writing the next chapter in its great history.” Incorporated with an angular design the vehicle manages to look both severe and elegant.
The vehicle is a perfectly suited for everyday use as it unites its mighty performance with the wide-ranging of new technologies together in a fully integrated fashion. Just like the Lamborghini Gallardo, the name of its successor the ‘Lamborghini Huracan’ is also taken from a fighting bull of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed which fought in August 1879 in Alicante.
The first thrill you get will be as soon as you start looking at it. Huracan has sharp, aerodynamic lines designed to fend the air and tame the road. The design of the car is bold and edgy, with beautiful sculptural forms. The car has an arrow shaped front end angled sharply downward like the nose of a shark, with two pleats on the hood. With flat angular headlamps that is fitted only with LED’s, the Huracan gets an innovation in this class of supercars. These light-guides produce the daytime running light as well forming two Y-shaped contours on each side giving the vehicle the look of a predator ready to pounce. Apart from these the front section of the car is dominated by a massive air intake, which is cut deep into the front end and stretches across its full width along with the fins that are painted in body colour.
The new design concept introduced in the Lamborghini Huracan is quite evident from the side, which portrays the vehicle as a fast-moving technical sculpture. Starting from the headlamp, there’s a line that runs over the front fender to define a broad, angled edge on the door. The aluminium cladding on the sides just stretches over the mighty 20 inch wheels which will be available with two rim options, the 20” Giano casted and the 20” Mimas forged. The height of the vehicle is so low that one can clearly see the roof positioned just above the heads of driver and co-driver making smooth arc continuing till the luggage compartment lid and through the low lying C-pillars.
Lamborghini Huracan gets 20 inch diameter wheels integrated with ceramic braking system to give the vehicle exceptional braking power. Huracan also get an optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering system and MagneRide electromagnetic damper control system to enhance the vehicle’s performance and handling to its best. At the rear Huracan gets two options for the engine cover, the first one being the standard one with three large matte-black polymer fins which covers the engine between the extremely low-lying C-pillars. The second one being the transparent cover made out of forged composite material to give a clear view of the V10 engine.
Apart from this one can also witness the three-dimensional form of the car at the rear end which has a wide meshed outlet for ventilating the engine. Above it are the narrow tail lamps which are similar to the headlamps at the front fitted entirely with LED’s and also get the Y-shaped contours. And finally the four end pipes of the exhaust system which are elliptical in shape & are chrome plated.
Lamborghini Huracan gets the state of art interiors offering superb consistency with its exterior design and sporty character. The driver and the co-driver enjoys more space and better visibility than the Gallardo thus offering greater comfort for long distance driving. An innovative cockpit which dominates the interior is attached with 12.3 inch TFT display which gives all the vital information as well as the infotainment information required while driving this car. The steering wheel is provided with all main controls (including the dynamic mode selector) as well as the gearbox paddles placed just behind it.
The dynamic mode selector on the steering wheel gives the driver three driving modes to choose from, this includes STRADA, SPORT and CORSA. This selector completely changes the behavior of the Huracán by modifying the setups for all the main systems in the car, including engine and gearbox response, engine sound, suspension stiffness, steering and all-wheel drive torque distribution.
Other notable features inside the car includes the Electromechanical Power Steering (EPS) system that ensures an increased efficiency and was carefully set up in order to provide the driver with the perfect steering feedback according to the driving situation, optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) which gives a more race-like feeling, 3D Navigation system which displays high quality map with 3D views, and the standard sport seats included with an electric backrest and longitudinal adjustments.
Just like every other high performance Lamborghini engine, the Huracan also gets a 5.2 litre V10 naturally aspirated engine that allures the driver’s senses with breath taking throttle response, revving up to 8,000 mark, and has amazing pulling power with distinctive sound which is sure to make any heads turn.
The acronym LP in the name of Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 represents the orientation of the extensively redesigned V10 engine which is mounted in a typical longitudinal direction behind the driver (“longitudinale posteriore”). This engine as the name indicates produces 610 hp (449 kW) of power output at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 560 Nm at 6,500 rpm. An injection technology coupled with IDS (Iniezione Diretta Stratificata, direct fuel injection) and multi-point injection (MPI), both of which can be used in sequence or together is provided in the vehicle to get the best performance. Lamborghini Huracan is able to sprint from 0-100 km/hr in just 3.2 seconds, while from 0-200 km/hr it can achieve in 9.9 seconds. The top speed achieved by Huracan is 325 Km/hr.
The innovative hybrid chassis of Lamborghini Huracan weighs less than 200 kgs which is lesser than even the lightweight Gallardo chassis. This chassis is considered better when it comes to crash safety and stiffness and lays the foundation for the dynamic handling and precise production finish. The rear bulkhead, for example, offers an excellent protection in case of a side impact, because its fibers are laid out in exactly the direction of load travel.
This hybrid chassis of the Lamborghini Huracán consists partly of aluminum, while the front and rear sections of the car with the axle mounts are made almost entirely from the lightweight alloy, and carbon-fiber parts produced using the RTM process (Resin Transfer Molding). These things are concentrated around the occupant cell, where they form part of the floor and sills, the center tunnel, rear bulkhead and the B-pillars with their particularly complicated geometries. The x-shaped brace in the engine bay is also made from CFRP. Stainless steel fasteners connect the aluminum and carbon-fiber components.
A new Lamborghini is always a big deal especially when it costs a whopping $200,000. However it can be quite demanding when it is considered as a replacement to the Italian marquee’s best selling model the Lamborghini Gallardo which has already crossed the 14,000 sales number post 2003. When compared with Gallardo the Lamborghini Huracan is definitely more powerful, more efficient, lighter, smarter and quicker. These features can easily attract any supercar freaks and it is quite evident in this case as 700 pre-orders have already been made for the Huracan by mid February.
