With the launch of the new World SUV, Mahindra & Mahindra has shaked the D-segment SUV market in India. Code named earlier as the W201, the vehicle has been named as XUV 500 and will be available at an astonishing starting price of Rs 10.8 lakh. With the launch of Mahindra XUV 500 the Indian carmaker has tried to put the country on global scenario with its global based new design.
Design of the XUV 500 is inspired by cheetah. The SUV gets the signature Mahindra grille and day time running LED’s. Rear wheel of the XUV 500 gets a haunch which intrudes into the glasshouse and C-pillar, indicating the power that comes from the hind legs legs of a cheetah while the door handles resemble the claws of the pacy feline.
Inside the vehicle, the plastic quality and overall fit & finish levels are decent enough, except for a few bits where work needs to be done. The Mahindra XUV 500 has an in-dash music system and a 6 inch touch-screen on the centre console, which includes sat-nav and Bluetooth telephony. The armrest gets a chiller box and the steering wheel can be adjusted for rake and reach.
The XUV 500 is in a 7-seater format with three rows of seating. While the space in the first two rows is good, that in the third row is a bit tight. The XUV 500 gets the mHawk140 engine that boasts 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. This power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The SUV gets micro Hybrid technology and twin exhaust pipes.
