Subaru Hybrid Tourer

Subaru Hybrid Tourer is a concept car made by the Japanese automaker Subaru. This car was launched two years back at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2009. The hybrid car has a pair of oversized gullwing doors and is mainly powered by a hybrid drivetrain that centers around a 2.0 liter horizontally opposed direct gasoline injection turbocharged engine combined with two auxiliary electric motors. The all wheel drive philosophy is powered by a high performance lithium ion battery pack, a 10kW item at the front and a 20 kW unit at the rear.

The Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept features Subaru’s latest evolutions in handling agility, riding comfort and superior safety performance. It proposes Subaru’s vision of a future grand touring car that excels in environmental friendliness thanks to Subaru’s unique hybrid system.

In normal driving conditions this car uses the direct-injection petrol engine, but at lower speeds and start-up, the car is driven by the rear electric motor. The forward electric unit, which is mainly used as a power generator, kicks in to assist performance and efficiency while tackling inclines. Subaru’s in-house designed Lineartronic automatic transmission is featured, further boosting fuel efficiency and driving performance.
