Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi have finally launched the much awaited Pajero Sport in the Indian Market. The first news of the SUV coming to our shores was heard more than six months ago, but with the cost factor playing a crucial role and the value of Indian Rupee falling down, the company had to withhold the plan, localize the vehicle as much as possible and make it an affordable proposition for the Indian customers. Finally now the company has come with a hardened 4×4 campaigner with a low-range, centre differential and rear diff lock which is aimed for serious off roaders.
When it comes to exterior styling and looks, the Pajero Sport is definitely much better in comparison to the Pajero SFX and the Mitsubishi Outlander. It looks no less than a car from the Dakar Rally. The SUV has a robust look with solid build quality along with rain sensing wipers, roof rails, side steps (which can be removed if required), fog lamps, park distance control and pretty cool looking 17-inch alloy wheels. The SUV measures 4695 mm in length, 1815 mm in width, 1840 mm in height and has a ground clearance of 215mm.
The interior of the Pajero Sport is also well equipped & spacious to keep up with the competition in the market. It consists of comfortable leather seats, central console that comes with faux wood finish, multifunction steering wheel, multifunction display, electric windows on the front and back, leather-bound steering wheel, cruise control and folding side mirrors. But above all when it comes to safety, this Pajero is equipped with six airbags, ABS brakes, EBD and collapsible steering column.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5 litre, 16 valve, turocharged and intercooled diesel engine that delivers 178 PS of power at 4000 rpm and a torque of 400Nm at 2000-2500 rpm. A five speed manual gearbox is mated to the engine along with the state of art four wheel drive system which will be a definite advantage to the vehicle while driving off road.
Presently the Pajero Sport in India will be available in only one diesel variant with six attractive shades: White, black, red, silver, grey and brown. Also the price of this SUV will be around Rs 23.53 lakhs(ex-showroom New Delhi).
